As a retired National Athlete and Paralympian, I've been very lucky to travel the world with my snowboard, however I have found accessibility is not always easy to come by. Though I am ambulatory, I struggle to walk far and to use stairs especially with luggage.
I have decided to sell everything, walk away from a career that I love as an Accessibility and Mobility Rep and to travel North America with my dog leaving July 1st.
I will stop many places along the way and rate them for their accessibility. I will highlight and celebrate businesses that have took everyone into consideration and have adapted their facilities/buildings/architecture for easy access. My focus will be adventure spots like beaches, parks, golf courses, campgrounds, theme parks, gyms, rest stops and popular restaurants, the odd hotel.
My goal is to give people like myself living a disability the confidence to travel and explore without having to wonder if it’s accessible.
I also have a strong love for adrenaline so this won't be an average road trip. Stay tuned as I huck myself out of planes, barrel down mountains on my bike, hike into the unknown and meet rad people along the way!
